Barcelona manager Luis Enrique is very confident of side heading into the 2016/17 season. Barcelona has done some major strengthening over the summer and will hope to have yet another trophy filled season under Enrique.
Having already brought in former Villareal man Denis Suarez, Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes, and French defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne, the Catalan giants look more than capable of winning a few trophies next season.
However, in a press conference ahead of the Gamper Trophy Game, Luis Enrique told reporters that he could yet still bring in more players before the transfer window closes in September, “A lot depends on what’s available. If you can bring in young players at a good price it would be ridiculous not to sign them. We are always looking at strengthening the squad and trying to make the team as strong as possible. The transfer door is always open so if we see something we like we’ll make a move.”
It is said that the Spanish champions are in the hunt to bring in another striker to fill in up top should one of Messi, Neymar, or Suarez need a rest or pick up an injury. Having already missed out on a few names this summer, the Catalan giants are currently linked with Brazilian forward Luan Vieira to fill the role.
Luis Enrique also spoke about how he is very impressed with his side and that he believes his team is destined for glory next year. “On paper we have the best Barça squad of recent years. If you could see the intensity of the team, it’s as if it’s a team that has never won anything before. They are hungry to win everything next season. This is a unique squad of players, I think,” said Enrique. “We’ve made some brilliant singings this summer and it’s now up to us to see if we can retain the titles we won last season and also win more. The new signings have been very good, they have come back from holiday but have been doing their homework. Everything is positive and, while you tend to always praise new signings, I am really happy with the players I have brought in. They are looking better than I expected.”
The Catalan giants are set to start their season on August 14th when they face Sevilla in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup. Then on August 20th they will start their La Liga campaign at home against Real Betis.
