Former Barclays Premier League and England international midfielder Jamie O’Hara is reportedly set to begin trial with the San Jose Earthquakes. With Dominic Kinnear looking to bolster his midfield, having already completed a trade to bring in Darwin Ceren from Orlando City SC, this move could make a lot of sense for Earthquakes.
The news of the trial was reported by Fox Sports correspondent Julie Stewart-Binks, who tweeted, “As we just reported on @FOXSports – the San Jose Earthquakes are brining in English MF Jamie O’Hara on trial this week. #MLS.”
Jamie O’Hara was released by Fulham at the end of the 2015-2016 season after a strong season with the Cottagers in the English Championship, in which he made 32 appearances and grabbed 1 goal.
Though just coming off the back of a season in England’s second division, O’Hara does have plenty of top-flight experience. After coming up through the Arsenal youth system, the midfielder bounced around the Barclays Premier League, representing the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Blackpool.
Should O’Hara’s trial go well, the Earthquakes would find themselves with a very powerful, strong, and hard working midfielder that would compliment Anibal Godoy very nicely in the center of the park. O’Hara’s rugged play style would certainly add a new element to Dominic Kinnear’s midfield and could help the Earthquakes compete with physically stronger and tougher sides.
With so many injuries to the squad, including to key players like Marc Pelosi and Clarence Goodson, Dominic Kinnear is in desperate need of strong new additions to boost his side, as they currently sit down in 8th in the MLS Western Conference.
While O’Hara won’t solve all of the Earthquake’s problems, he is certainly a step in the right direction for Kinnear’s struggling San Jose side.
