Miami Heat Looking to Add Carmelo Anthony in Free Agency?

As if the Miami Heat couldn’t acquire any more star power, there are reports surfacing surrounding the team’s interest in adding New York Knicks’ ace Carmelo Anthony. The report claims that the Heat’s Big Three – Chris Bosh, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade – would all opt out of their contracts and restructure their deals with enough room to bring Anthony to South Beach.

Carmelo Anthony is going to have a big decision this summer in terms of where he’ll play next season, and a number of teams are inevitably in line to acquire his services.

While the New York Knicks have the money to retain their superstar forward, there’s speculation that the Miami Heat are looking to create enough space to steal Anthony away from the Big Apple.

According to ESPN NBA correspondent Marc Stein and ESPN.com writer Brian Windhorst, Miami’s top players – most likely Chris Bosh, LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade – have reportedly deliberated restructuring their deals in order to bring Anthony to South Beach next season.

This is all barring Anthony’s decision to opt out of his current deal – which early presumptions indicate he will probably do so – but given New York’s situation, there’s a plausible feeling he could move on from the Knicks.

Anthony has until Jun. 23 to let New York know if he’s set to opt out or not – per Stein and Windhorst.

Stein and Windhorst also reported that in order for the Heat to have the funds to afford Anthony, Miami’s Big Three would have to opt out of their current contracts this summer and redo them to give the Heat that flexibility. And considering the enticing idea of creating a Big Four, and a winning championship, Anthony could take less as well.

Of course, these are all premature ideas dangling in the wind, but as farfetched as it seems – like something out of a video game – it’s not too crazy if you think about it. But it’s pretty scary to other teams when they think about it.

Where oh where will ‘Melo land. Round and around we go.
